Randy Moss, on wearing pink gloves: “I want to make a difference.”

MossglovesLook on the field Sunday and you’ll see an interesting thing… A bunch of players will be wearing pink equipment, including gloves and cleats. That’s Randy Moss at today’s practice (right) wearing pink gloves, as a shot by our photog Matt West shows us.

Why?

It’s a movement designed to splash the football fields with pink to create some publicity and generate interest in Breast Cancer Awareness. Along with Moss, RB Laurence Maroney and some others will do the same.

As  co-founder of the movement Laura Beraznik said, “The stereotype of a tough, rugged football player represents the incredible strength required and displayed by those fighting cancer.”

That comes from this press release about the whole thing from Cutters Gloves.

Moss, who always keeps a low profile with us reporter types, is quoted in the release.

Cancer affects everybody in some way. If I can do something to help people out, to raise awareness and help raise money - well, that’s what it’s all about,” Moss said. “I want to make a difference.”

  1. I would just like to thank Randy as well as the others who are doing this to help fight this dreaded disease. I too have had my family affected by breast cancer as well as several other forms of this nasty disease and any help is welcome.

    Thank you Randy.

  2. Randy, not sure if you will see this but just in case. My 14 yr old grandson saw you with the pink reebok cleats on and asked why you were wearing them so I (being a breast cancer survivor} told him. He asked me if he could get a pair of pink cleats to wear (he is a running back for his team in Merrimack NH). I looked everywhere to try and buy him a pair for his 14th birthday and could not find any. Do you have any ideas on where I could get him a size 11 1/2 pink cleats. I will pay for them. call 603=424-7440

Patriots beat reporter Ian R. Rapoport joined the Herald in July of 2009 after three years covering Alabama and coach Nick Saban for The Birmingham News. Though sad to see him go, Saban takes comfort in knowing Ian will be covering his buddy, Bill Belichick. A Boston-born Columbia graduate who grew up in New York, Ian emerged from a trek into the Deep South that lasted five years, the first two of which he spent covering Mississippi State for The Jackson Clarion-Ledger. Along the way, he picked up blogging, Twittering, and a funny accent. He also met his wife, known as The Banktress, who moved to Boston without ever having seen snow.

Karen Guregian has been a member of the Boston Herald sports staff since 1984, covering the Patriots beat full-time for the past two seasons. A Chelmsford native and Northeastern grad, she followed the Bruins for eight seasons, has been a regular in the paper's Red Sox coverage and has covered nearly every major sporting event during her Herald career, including the World Series, Super Bowl, Stanley Cup finals, NBA Finals and numerous professional golf majors.
