Assistant District Attorney Joseph P. Kennedy III says the election of a Republican to the seat held by his late great-uncle, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, did not affect his decision to sit this election out.

Kennedy, 29, a prosecutor for the Cape & Islands who graduated from Harvard Law School less than a year ago, considered running for the seat held by U.S. Rep. William Delahunt.
