FORT MYERS - David Ortiz went 0-for-2 with a strikeout yesterday in the Red Sox’ 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at City of Palms Park, dropping his spring average to .063 (1-for-16). Under a microscope following his uneven 2009 season, Ortiz isn’t sweating the slow start.

“Why should I?” Ortiz said. “You know what? This is my 14th spring training. I’ve never seen my spring training numbers on the back of my baseball card. Have you? Then I don’t have to worry about this (expletive). I’m getting ready for the season and that’s it.”

The spring training numbers aren\'t on the back of a baseball card, but your numbers were on the back of a baseball card last year...For the money the Sox pay your FAT AZZ we have a right to worry...

Really can\'t believe the sloppy writing. lack of proof reading lately, seems every article has errors.

It's deja vu all over again! Sounds just like last season. The spring started slow and Ortiz and everyone else assured us, "don't worry ... it doesn't matter ... it doesn't matter until the games count ... I'll be ready then", etc. Here we go again ... I'll be stunned if we don't have a repeat of last year.

I told everyone that this guy was done last season. He will never be the same without his drugs. The front office should have made a play for Adam Dunn. Dunn would provide the necessary hitting that Ortiz is incapable of providing.

The Red Sox also had an opportunity to acquire an Andrian Gonzales from San Diego but instead they wanted to hold on to the brain surgury kid Westmoreland. Its unfortunate but this kid will never be the same after surgury. They should have traded him in a package for Gonzales when they could. Thanks John Henry. We Love you.

Big "If not for Steroids I'd been out of baseball six years ago" Ortiz will be a big headache until he is cut in June. He'll blame the media first. Then no power hitter behind him second. Then the ungrateful, racist fans last. What a fraud. Release him now. I don't think any other team would pick him up.

Totally agree with you rick, tough to keep eating all these contracts though. The NYY tried to get giambi's last year to be productive and it was a nightmare.

The Red Sox and Yankee's can eat contracts if necessary. Ortiz's and Lowell's contracts both should be eaten. Make a play for Dunn. Dunn is making only $10 million for one year. The Yankee's could have used Dunn instead of getting injury prone Nick Johnson.
