Ping’s decision allows PGA to move forward on wedge ban
Tuesday, March 9, 2010 -
ORLANDO, Fla. — Club manufacturer Ping agreed Monday to ease its exemption to new groove-cut regulations, clearing the way for the PGA Tour and U.S. Open to ban all square-cut grooves from their competition.
Court agreements from nearly two decades ago kept Ping Eye2 models made before April 1990 in competition, sparking a small firestorm at the tour’s San Diego stop. Now those clubs no longer will be accepted for use after the Arnold Palmer Invitational, beginning March 25 at Bay Hill.
